WHA

The following is a chart showing each and every team in the original World Hockey Association. The first column, 1971-72, is actually the approximate time span when teams were awarded. (The initial ten teams were announced November 1, 1971. Dates are given for additional teams.) The league did not start play until the 1972-73 season. The first column is there simply to show the changes that took place between being awarded a franchise and starting play. All team name or location changes are highlighted in bold with a green background so they are easy to pick out.
